spring is coming!
It is the first of February, and astronomical spring is six weeks away. However, it is starting to look like spring at my house, and here’s the proof.
First, indoors, on my kitchen windowsill. My local grocery store sells pots of sprouting forced bulbs this time of year, and they’re so inexpensive I can’t resist. I’ll find a corner of ground to tuck them into once it warms up a bit.

And outside. Please forgive the weeds. I still haven’t cleaned up the garden yet. Soon.

Oh, and something unrelated to plants, but definitely related to the weather: yet another needlework experiment. Someone posted on Facebook back in early January how they were going to make an afghan by crocheting one row every day. The color would be determined by the day’s high temperature. So I thought I would do it, too. Anyway, here’s the yarn:

And here’s the afghan at the end of the first month:

Hmm. I wonder whether this is because LiveJournal lets you post pictures directly from your computer, including them in the post, but Dreamwidth will only accept URLs, so you have to upload the pictures somewhere and then give Dreamwidth the URL. I generally post on Dreamwidth with an automatic reblog to LiveJournal, and I get around this issue by writing the post on LiveJournal, or at least uploading the pictures into it, but not saving the post there. Instead, I copy the HTML out of the LiveJournal comment posting window and paste it into Dreamwidth, because as soon as I upload the picture LiveJournal stores it and users its LiveJournal URL in the post. Then I finish writing the post on Dreamwidth , save it, go back to LiveJournal and check it there, and delete the never-finished and never-saved post on LJ.

Probably is. This is the 2nd time I've had this issue. Oh well.
