In the interest of me being able to use LJ again, can someone recommend a non-google product where I might be able to get a web-based email address which will allow me to forward my messages to my PC-based email client?
Gmail (or any Google product) is not an option after the Blogger fiasco less than a year ago. I don't want the address pulled out from under me with little warning because I haven't upgraded my browser yet from the latest XP version of IE the way Blogger was. I'm working on the OS upgrade as fast as
kk1raven can get Thunderbird to do what I need it to do, but in the meantime...
Help?

Date: 2012-09-16 05:21 pm (UTC)The problem is that LJ is on Spamhaus's blacklist, and my ISP pays attention to Spamhaus. Apparently Spamhaus's blacklist trumps my right to receive email from a legitimate website, and there's nothing I can do about it, because I have LJ's domain name whitelisted at my ISP, and have for years. My ISP didn't come out and say that in so many words, but that was what they meant, and they've told me it's not their problem LJ is blacklisted, it's LJ's. They've otherwise been a very good ISP for the twelve years I've been with them, and I'm not going to switch ISPs over this because I don't want the hassle of moving my website and changing my email addresses right now, let alone figuring out how to find an ISP guaranteed not to do this to me, too.
I've complained to LJ, but don't expect any response. I've never had them respond to anything I've ever sent to them directly in the seven years I've been on LJ, plus I have one of the old grandfathered free no-advertising accounts so they have no incentive to bother with me. I guess my only hope is that if a bunch of people with paid accounts complain to them.

Date: 2012-09-16 07:30 pm (UTC)I have a paid account and have put in a request that they look into it. I don't realistically expect a response, but worth a try, I guess.
(I'd never heard of Spamhaus until now.)

Date: 2012-09-16 11:15 pm (UTC)I don't know why it suddenly became an issue with my ISP, unless they've just started to use Spamhaus.
So without a completely different email address that doesn't go through my ISP, I guess I'm stuck.
