In a stroller on the way to the park, according to my mother.
2. When Mt. St. Helens blew? (5/18/1980)
Working as a newspaper proofreader (the ads, not the articles).
3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded? (1/28/1986)
On my way to work at Eugene Public Library with the news station on the radio on.
4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco? (10/7/1989)
With the ex-spouse, who was watching the World Series (I was doing needlework, and looked up at the TV only when he said something).

Me, too. I just remember spending the next few months totally disgusted.
I was unemployed (by choice) just outside Tacoma, WA, on that date.

Hee. I was in my car about ten miles from the epicenter, and didn't feel a darned thing. Didn't know anything had *happened* till my niece called to find out if I was okay.

About to go hike the Mist Trail in Yosemite National Park. A bunch of school kids ran by, yelling "they've bombed New York!" and my reaction was "what movie did you guys watch last night?" Didn't find out it was for real till I got back that night.
