mmegaeraI've been to two cons -- Nasfic several years ago, and one small local con.
This and the posts it references really squicked me out.
Do I need to be worried about such things at my first WorldCon in Denver this summer? Almost certainly not personally, since I'm on the high end of middle age, but I'm almost as unhappy about witnessing it as being on the receiving end of such awful behavior myself. If there were goings-on like this at Nasfic, I didn't see them (the only thing that squicked me out there was the cat guy), and Foolscap was positively demure.
I did, however, get a, um, kick out of this. Probably because I'm just nasty that way. A modest proposal indeed. Although kicking would not be my preferred method. After all, groping isn't physically painful...
Later. Ran across another post on the subject that articulates my feelings about the topic exactly. Considering that the only time I've ever had anything like this happen to me was on a deserted street near King Street Station in Seattle once about 18 years ago, and it scared me pretty badly.
Anyway, getting my eyes opened here...
