Covers for the New Thing

So. I'm almost done with the revisions for Sojourn, aka the New Thing, aka my "state trooper crashes his cruiser out in the wilds of the Cascade Mountains and ends up in the local version of Brigadoon" story (sans music).

You know what this means! Covers!

And here's what I've come up with so far. Tell me which one would make you pick the book up off the shelf, and which one wouldn't (and why for either/both would be brilliant). They are numbered for your convenience.

Note. I'm pretty sure you can't read the blurb on the back, but it's just placeholder text, not the real blurb (actually it's the blurb for Finding Home). Just so you know. Oh, and yes, the photos are comps. I will buy and pay for the piece I finally end up using.

I like either 1 or 6, as they're the ones that actually say "mountains" to me visually. I like the color composition better in 1, but in 6 I like the overlay of the clock.

Thanks, Anna! I hate finding the art for covers. I hate it more than just about any other part of the self-publishing process, with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Once I have the art I'm fine, but finding the art is like looking for dragons' teeth.

And I'm still not sure I've found the art I want to use, either. I hate stock art, but I can't afford anything else [sigh].

Someone out there could make a fortune (or at least a good living) finding genre-appropriate art for indie authors. I send him my storyline, he sends me back half a dozen images to choose from... Now that's my fantasy.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to having to do anything of that nature myself once I get my next couple of self-pub releases dealt with!
