Ursula LeGuin on technology

This forcibly reminds me of the time I went to the Henry Ford Museum and ran into a machine that made light bulbs. I stared rather dumbfoundedly at it for several minutes.

I guess I'd always thought they just sprang fully-formed from the head of Zeus or something.

• That's a fine short essay you link to. Of course, anything by Le Guin is apt to be very good indeed. (Yes, I have been a Le Guin fan most of my life; why?)
• After reading it, I clicked on the link to Changing Planes, a collection of her stories. Oh! Oh! I will have to get it!
• Her page about it has a list of the stories, each with a link to a drawing for it by Eric Beddowes. Looking at the big version of the one for Confusion on Uñi is like a fall in a house of Escher.

Heh. I meant, unseriously, "Why do you ask?"
