a Wordpress question

First, there's this photo I posted over on WordPress -- http://mmjustus.wordpress.com. Bug people in particular might be interested [eg].

Second, does anyone know how to make a Wordpress (.com, not .org) post automatically repost on DW and LJ? I've got it mirroring to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, but I can't figure out how to get them to post over here.

There are Wordpress plugins that'll let you mirror to LJ and LJ-like sites. The one I use is called JournalPress.

Unfortunately plugins are a wordpress.org thing, not a wordpress.com thing. But thanks.

Ah, I see that they don't actually give you access to the plugins directly, though they've got a lot installed for use. Well, that sucks.

But in general plugins would be how you're doing things like crossposting to Twitter and Facebook and such. That's _not_ standard Wordpress functionality. Wordpress.com just set up plugins for you to do that.

I see here that they will in fact take requests for plugins to do certain things so hey, you might ask their support people if they'd install JournalPress or something similar.

Where did you find a link for asking for plug-ins for Wordpress.com? My one complaint about Wordpress is that there is no place to ask a person for an answer to a specific question.

Well, this is the answer I got back from WordPress, so I guess that's that:

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins.

There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes anything at all stated here http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

FTP access, plugins and third party themes are available only for VIP bloggers http://vipwordpress.com/our-services/ or for those with WordPress.ORG installs. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate. if you require plugins you hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install. http://wordpress.org/ Then you can move your content from the free hosted WordPress.com blog into the WordPress.org install. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

Ugh. Well, that's a big drag.

That said: you do actually know someone with a web host who can set up Wordpress installs. I.e., me. We do host a small number of other Wordpress blogs on my and Dara's web servers. So if you ever want to go that route, talk to me.

(Caveat: murkworks.net IS our personal site so it's subject to the whims of our ISP, which is Comcast. But we have business class pipes so we're generally pretty stable. And I keep our Wordpress blogs up to date with the current Wordpress version.)

Is there any particular reason that you link to the main page of your WordPress, not the permanent links for any particular entry, when you crosslink here?

Mostly I just type it in, rather than go to the page and cut and paste. Other than that, no.
