Not that it was ever in doubt, but Daniel Day-Lewis won his third Oscar, for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln, in the only performance I've ever seen where someone was portraying a historical figure and I actually forgot for minutes at a time that I was watching an actor. He was that good.

The rest of the awards didn't matter quite so much, but I cared about that one.

Oh, and ye godlings, I hope they never invite Seth MacFarlane back as host again. He was right down there with David Letterman, vying for the Razzie for Worst Academy Award Host in the Last 40 Years (the first time I remember watching them, I was thirteen).

I don't suppose you'd like to give a quick recap of the most current Bujold list kerfluffle? I glimpse through the subject lines occasionally to see if there is a new book announcement, but can't keep up with the volume.

It's just another round of the usual Komarr-good, Barrayar-evul (at least so far as I can tell -- I've killfiled the two most obnoxious posters because I refuse to read them anymore), which devolved into the also usual how can we keep certain people from hijacking and ruining Every Single Discussion of Barrayaran politics. I swear, this time the how can we make these people Shut Up went on longer than the original discussion.

Some people are constitutionally incapable of not answering a troll, alas.

Ugh. Just as well for me, then, that I stopped following the list long ago. I love Bujold -- well, not the Sharing Knife series, but the Chaliverse and the Vorkosigan sagas. Here are (most of) my Bujold filks.

Every time I post about the Bujold list, someone makes that sort of comment, and it saddens me every time, because good people leaving the list only makes things worse.

Oh, it wasn't because of troublemakers or pests. I just had too many things I had to do or wanted to do, and I couldn't do them all. My memories of the Bujold list are all positive. :-)
