I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. I write historical fiction (with a bit of the fantastic, in the old sense of the term) set in the North American West. I quilt, and cross-stitch, and crochet, all of which combine to keep me from being destructive while trying to sit still (my mother taught me to crochet when I was very young because it was either that or find little piles of shredded paper in front of the TV in the mornings).

Well, the writing you know about. :) I also used to try hunting for haunted houses and to meet with people who claimed to be psychic, to see if there was anything to whatever or whoever I found.

So what would you say if I'd told you I'd had two ghostly encounters? [g]

I'd say good for you. :) As it is many of the folks I've known who've had such encounters refuse to believe it, and just chalk it up to their imagination.

The first was just interesting. The second one was scary -- I don't care much for having a man's hand come down on my face in the middle of the night [wry g], especially when I began that night as the only person in the room.

I love lima beans, and Grand Central Terminal in New York is my favorite building in the world, mostly for its innate beauty but also because it's still being used for its original purpose.

If you could step into a fictional character's life (either because you would like to be them or because you think you could do better at it than them), which one and why?

[stops, starts, stops again] But you see, that's why I started writing fiction. Or one of the reasons I did. So I could, theoretically at least, say that about every viewpoint character I've ever written.

I've never really had the urge to do that with other people's characters. I enjoy them, but I don't feel that way about them.

I think I'll quote an appropriate bit from a sortofpoem I've recently written:

I'm at home with songs and poems -- scansion, meter, rhythm, rhyme --
And I'm in love with languages and writing systems -- tongues and hands.

Also, I like raisin bran (different branDs), assorted teas, and fruit.
