1) We had a heat wave this weekend. It hit 90F (a bit over 32C) degrees yesterday for the first time in almost two years (Aug. 16, 2010, to be precise), according to the weather people, who went on and on (and on) about it on the news.

It hit 93F (almost 34C) today, too, and broke the record for the date, which was 89. The low's been 60F (16+C), though, so as long as the fan works to bring the cool air in after sunset, the sleeping's fine. It's supposed to drop back to 80 tomorrow and then back to the 70s where it belongs the rest of the week.

I can hear all of the rest of the country laughing at the concept of this being a heatwave as I type. Go right ahead.

Yeah, I'm spoiled. I just don't do extremes anymore.

It doesn't seem to bother the kittens, though. They tore around as if it was 70 degrees.

2) I have three, count 'em, three baby quilts to make this fall.

First, a young lady (the granddaughter of one of my two best friends), whom I've known since she was a pregnancy bump herself, is due in October.

Second, my next door neighbors, who are the best neighbors I've ever had, are having their second child, due in January.

Third, my mother informed me this morning in her latest letter that one of my nephews and his wife are expecting their third "after the first of the year."

I've made a lot of baby quilts in my time -- to the point where I've completely lost track of how many, but probably at least three dozen -- but never this many at once.

I started piecing the first one yesterday.
