I think I'm edging ever closer

To Doing Something about getting another cat.

I just spent half an hour in my backyard petting a stray. S/he was a lovely long-haired medium gray with green eyes, and extremely affectionate.

Obviously I miss having someone to pet.

Having a fuzzy one around improves things. That stray sounds like a sweetie.

Stray wasn't the right word. S/he had a collar with a license tag, so obviously belongs to someone. But s/he definitely was a sweetie.
