One of the things that sucks about getting older (and possibly about having gone through menopause) is that I don't sleep as heavily as I used to. Witness my reaction to my late beloved kitty Morgan's yowling that I posted about a while ago. I've also been having problems with the sun rising at 5:30 in the morning over the last two or three weeks, beaming in my south-facing bedroom window, and waking me up in what I've always thought, in my civilized way, to be the middle of the expletive-deleted night.

Plus, my old bedroom curtains were in pretty bad shape -- it's hard on curtains when you grow your spring garden seedlings on that particular windowsill. There were several years worth of stains on them. Washing did not remove them. Not even after applying stain remover.

So it was time to do something about the window. I ordered a white roller shade (which I should be able to wipe clean after the seedlings are gone every year, since it's made of vinyl) to fit the window about three weeks ago, and it arrived this week. Then I went and bought teal cotton for a valance and tiebacks and what we quilters call a CoC (cream-on-cream) print for side panels, and sewed them up.

And today I finally got around to mounting the hardware and hanging everything. It looks pretty good, if I do say so myself, and the roller shade does a terrific job of blocking the light.

Looking forward to a decent night's sleep tonight, I am...
