I guess I should start using dw as well as lj. I have accounts at both, just never got the impetus before. And learning how to cross-post and all......
Cross-posting can be set up in your preferences so that it happens automatically from DW to LJ. So far as I know you can't do it in the other direction (LJ to DW). I'd have been posting regularly on DW a long time ago if that was the case (which I researched at the time).
