another question or three

So, in this process of moving over from LJ to DW, I've been subscribing to as much of my LJ FL as exists over here, or that I can find under the same usernames, at any rate (any advice on how to find people who might be on DW who I only know by their LJ username would be useful, short of sending PMs to each one -- I will post on LJ asking for them...).

Occasionally I've been seeing soandso.livejournal.com in people's DW FLs, too, which is kind of confusing. How does that work? Does that mean I can read people's LJs on DW? What about commenting? What about email notifications if someone replies to those comments?

Oh, and how do I get rid of that "most popular tags" thing in my sidebar?

The soandso.livejournal.com is for OpenID users; OpenID is sort of like a passport that LJ users can use in order to sign in to DW, so they can read locked entries when someone's granted access to them by their OpenID, comment, and get notifications. They can get email notifications if they've set up and confirmed an email address.

You can set up feeds for people's public entries on LJ for your reading page, but that is separate. (Those are set up on http://www.dreamwidth.org/feeds/ and you enter http://soandso.livejournal.com/data/rss in the place where it says "Feed URL" to start.)

Getting rid of the tags: the option should be in http://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/options?group=modules somewhere.

Thanks. I was thinking more of me being able to get email notifications through DW when I comment on their LJs using my DW account [wry g]. I so want to figure out some way to get my email notifications back...

You can set and verify an email address on your mmegaera.dreamwidth.org OpenID account signed in with LJ, but if their notifications in general are not getting through to you, that may not go well either. :\
