So. [livejournal.com profile] thebluerose said, comment here and I'll post five words and you can tell me about them in your LJ. So here are the five words she gave me, behind the cut.

1) Quilting. I have been a quilter for over twenty years now (I learned in 1987 or 1988, anyway, while I was living in Port Clinton, Ohio). I mostly piece (sew the pieces together) on the machine, and quilt (sew the three layers -- the top, the batting, and the backing -- together) by hand. I have made at least twenty bed-sized quilts, probably more like thirty, quite a few of which I've given away, and lots and lots of smaller items, including what's beginning to feel like a neverending series of baby quilts for the great-niblings. I also have a fabric stash 16 file-drawer-sized bins full, and more ideas for quilts than I have lifetime left to make [g].

2) Gardening. I have posted plenty of gardening picspam this summer. Suffice to say that my gardening eyes are bigger than my flower beds, and so I have way too many plants crowded into too little space, and I'm always adding more. I love blooms, and try to have as many as I can for as long a season as I can.

3) Books. Books breed at my house. They reproduce. If I leave two hardbacks together overnight, in the morning I wake up to find a litter of paperbacks. I don't really have favorite genres in fiction, I have favorite characters. If I am involved enough with the characters, genre is kind of a moot point. I do admit, however, to finding most of the kinds of characters I enjoy in novels with at least a bit of romance in them.

4) Road Trip. When can we go?!? I've said here before that my late, much-lamented father's idea of the perfect vacation was to get in the car and drive just as far as he could before he absolutely had to turn around in order to make it back to work the day after his vacation ended. I inherited this trait, I'm afraid. I didn't get to go anywhere for more than an overnight this year, and I'm feeling deprived. I have plans for next year (and the year after -- Reno WorldCon! -- though).

5) Pets. See icon [g]. The guys (Linnet's the orange cat, Morgan the white, both male in spite of their names) have lived with me for almost a third of my life. They moved in with me when they were six weeks old, and, except for three months when I was on my long trip and they stayed with a friend of mine, we've been living together ever since. They're still in pretty good health, too, considering. I'm a cat person. I like dogs, but I'm decidedly a cat person.

And those are my five words. If you want five words from me, comment on this post.
