It was already in the 70s when I woke up this morning -- at 6:30.

It's supposed to be in the 90s every day this week -- it made a good start at it yesterday. And it's supposed to hit 100 on Wednesday.

We are on target to break the longest hot streak ever (five days) in western Washington, which record has stood for almost thirty years. It's not supposed to even start cooling down until Sunday.

And since it happens here so seldom, air conditioning in one's home is highly uncommon. I plan to spend this afternoon watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in a nice, air-conditioned movie theater, and to spend the rest of my afternoons this week at the nice, air-conditioned library working on the book. But it's the nights that are awful. It's not cooling down to 70 even until about three in the morning.

You know, this is the kind of weather I moved here to avoid, dammit.

Oh, and guess what arrived yesterday? An order of bearded iris. Which need to be planted, but can be kept cool and dry for a few days, anyway. They're in my laundry room now, which happens to be the coolest place in the house [wry g].

Just in case you (for values of you that live in usually less blessed climes) think I'm whining -- http://www.komonews.com/weather Which discusses exactly how unusual this mess is.
