It's the British spelling of one of the Greek Furies, with an extra M on the front.
It was given to me by a Bujold listee (http://www.dendarii.com/mail_list.html), and I liked it. The extra M is because I go by a nickname of my middle name, and my first initial is also M. This also eliminates the "we already have someone using this username" in most online venues [g].
