ataniell93 started a discussion over on her journal about Twilight and the Harry Potter books, which segued, for me, at least [g], into a discussion about Lois Bujold's Sharing Knife books, and why they're not as satisfying or as pleasant for me to read as her other two series.
I finally managed to put my finger on it, thanks to another commenter,desert_vixen.
What I don't like about the Sharing Knife books is what happens (or, more specifically, doesn't happen) to the bad guys.
I cannot think of a single villain in the Vorkosiverse who doesn't get his or her comeuppance.
I cannot think of a single villain in the Chalionverse who doesn't get his or her comeuppance.
But in the Sharing Knife books? Nosirree. Fawn's obnoxious brothers are still alive and well. Dag's heinous relatives? Still kicking, and, on top of that, they even think they won, by chasing Dag and Fawn off at the end of book two.
And that's why I don't care much for The Sharing Knife books. The bad guys don't get what's coming to them. And I get enough of that in real life, thanks.
