But maybe I ought to take a pie picture and fix that. I certainly have enough pies on hand at the moment to take pictures of. Three, to be precise. One more than I've ever made on the same day before.

Two pumpkin and one cherry. Cherry was never a traditional Thanksgiving pie when I was growing up (my mother always made pumpkin and pecan), but the first time I went over to L's for dinner, I took a cherry pie, and, ever since, every time I've been invited over, and I ask what I should bring (I don't always -- sometimes I surprise them [g]), L's entire family choruses, "cherry pie, please!" So, since for the last fifteen years I've spent Thanksgiving, more often than not, at L's house, cherry pie has become a Thanksgiving tradition in addition to the usual pumpkin, which also gets eaten with great gusto (L's family is very gratifying to make dessert for).

This year there will be 17 people at L's house for Thanksgiving, so I told her I'd bake an extra pie. I'd have preferred it to be a second cherry pie, but the darned pie cherries are about three bucks a can -- and it takes two cans per pie. I wish I could find a local source of fresh pie cherries in the summertime so that I could can/freeze my own. It would be worth it. And, yes, I've tried farmer's markets and u-pick places. Everybody sells sweet cherries, not pie cherries. Not the same thing at all.

Anyway, many good Thanksgiving wishes to my fellow Americans (why does that phrase always make me think of Walter Matthau?), and a happy Thursday to everyone else [g].
