Well, that was fun. Not.
Jul. 3rd, 2008 06:59 pmUnderstand, thunder and lightning is not a normal occurrence west of the Cascades. I've lived in western Washington for fifteen years, and I can count the number of lightning strikes (note, that's individual strikes, not whole storms) that I've heard the thunder for in that time without taking my shoes off.
Last night the lightning started around 10 pm. It did not stop until about 10 am this morning. It was darned near constant for periods of up to a couple of hours each during that time, with very little gap in between those periods.
The cats were not the only ones who were freaked out.
I've been terrified of lightning ever since one time when I was in Colorado and one went off over my head so close that I heard it before I saw it.
Over the last 24 hours? I might as well have been visiting my mother in Texas. When I first woke up this morning I thought I was.
Criminy.
