dry hands redux

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will look into them.

I did check my soaps and they're all mixtures of varying kinds of vegetable oils (mostly olive and coconut), so no glycerin, no alcohol. There is a tiny amount of salt.

Looks like I may be investing in some higher quality hand lotions. Although that option still leaves me unable to cook or quilt or pet cats for an hour or so afterwards [sigh] -- I haven't yet run across a lotion that even after it absorbs doesn't make my hands feel tacky for at least that long, and after the tackiness eventually goes away my hands just feel dry again. There's a huge difference between hands feeling naturally not-dry and hands feeling lotioned up, if that makes any sense. I want a way to make my hands feel naturally not-dry, which I suspect is the holy grail this time of year, alas.

I'm dubious about using hydrocortisone on a regular basis. Esp. because I would not be good about doing things like accidentally touching my eyes.

And, yes, I do try to drink lots of water. Fortunately, at this time of year, I don't take a lot of long car trips [g].
