Anyone else want to discuss Zoe Archer's Blades of the Rose books with me?
I liked her concept and her characters. Her worldbuilding (at least on the geographical level) wasn't nearly as bad as, say, the movie version of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but once she got into the territory I'm personally familiar with (in the third book, Rebel) I did find myself jerked out of the story a few times.
But, oh, I do like the whole "Indiana Jones meets steampunk meets heroic quest meets romance" vibe. And the hero of the fourth book, Catullus Graves? He's just too nifty for words (I like the others -- I have a mad crush on Catullus).
