they're almost done with the roof!
Er. Backstory. A couple of years ago, we had a windstorm. It blew over 75 mph (that's hurricane-force, although not hurricane, since the winds were not circular). It did a lot of damage, including blowing some of the shingles off of my condo building. The roof sported a classic Pacific Northwest blue tarp for a couple of weeks, then the roofing guys came out and patched it.
It's been weathertight but rather ugly ever since.
Well, the condo association finally decided to do something about it, and last week The Roofers Returned. They've been banging around up there for about a week now -- last week it was tearing off all the old shingles and tarpaper, then arriving at six-thirty in the bloody morning on Friday with the load of shingles, which they piled on the ridgetops.
This week they came back and installed all the shingles. There's still bits and pieces left to do, according to the guy I talked to this afternoon, but the bulk of the work is done.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have a new roof. But I am so looking forward to not being waked up at the crack of dawn by elephants over my head. You really have no idea.
P.S. The cats are going to be absolutely thrilled, too. This has been, to put it lightly, traumatizing for them.
