At last. I got an automated call from Sears on Sunday night telling me that my delivery window on Monday is 3:30 to 5:30. By 5:30, no one has shown. I call Sears, get put on hold for about ten minutes, only to be told that they're running late (no duh), but that I will have my fridge today.

About a quarter to seven I finally give up and feed the cats and start fixing dinner, and guess who shows up in my driveway? The delivery people (two very apologetic Hispanic fellows), who pull out a refigerator with the hinges on the wrong side. This is fairly easily remedied since all it takes is moving them to the pre-drilled holes on the other side and putting the plastic hole-filler thingys on the original side, but takes a few extra minutes, but apparently this sort of snafu has been happening all day. And, yes, I had told the salesman which side I needed the hinges on. AAMOF, I was halfway out to the parking lot after making the purchase when I realized he hadn't asked me and I hadn't said anything, and I dashed back in and he had to cancel the sale and redo the whole thing to fix it. Since it didn't arrive with the hinges on the correct side and it was a matter of about ten minutes for them to swap it, I don't know why he had to do that in the first place, but I'm not going there.

Oh, and the Energy Star rating that came with my actual refrigerator was a few dollars higher per year than the one on the same model in the store, too.

Both the salesperson and the delivery men were almost pleading with me to give them a good report on the customer survey they desperately wanted me to fill out, too.

I got the very strong impression that the employees of Sears's appliance department, at least, fall into two categories. The ones who deal with actual customers face-to-face seem to be in a "the customer gives you a good report or you're fired" situation, and the ones who are behind the scenes don't seem to give a shit.

This has not been the case in my past dealings with them. I was not happy that this was the situation this time.

Anyway, when I got up this morning I had ice in my ice trays and cold milk in the fridge. I guess that's all that really matters. This fridge had damned well better last longer than my last one did.
