So. I noticed yesterday morning that my milk was not quite so cold as it usually is. Then, when I went to get ice for my tea for lunch, the ice trays I had filled the night before were not quite frozen solid. So I called the appliance repairman. He came out at the crack of dawn this morning (after the dispatcher had told me he'd a) be here sometime an hour on either side of noon and b) would call me before he got here [grrr]), only to tell me that it has a freon leak, and that due to EPA regs it would cost more to repair it than replace it.

So I went refrigerator shopping this morning.

Can anyone tell me why on earth someone would want to pay $2000 for a refrigerator??? The top end ones at Sears were going for more than that. The median price was about $1000, which is still ridiculous. My new one cost $400 plus delivery and haul-away of the old one. All I require of a refrigerator is that it keep my food cold. Not that it do everything up to and including the dishes, thankyouverymuch.

The new fridge will arrive on Monday. In the meantime, everything from the fridge freezer is now in my chest freezer, and I have a chunk of ice in the refrigerator part to keep the perishables from spoiling (and a couple of jugs of water freezing in the chest freezer to put in the fridge when the chunk of ice is melted). Did I mention that I love my chest freezer?
