the "before" pictures

Or at least the "after spreading compost as mulch and planting annuals" pictures [g].

back garden 1.jpg
The back garden. Lots of promise, not much blooming except the tail end of a couple of grape hyacinths and one lone daffodil. For some reason, here in the middle of daffodil country (they grow them commercially just down the road), I can't grow daffodils to save my life. They bloom one year and then vanish, with not so much as a leaf for a forwarding address. Both clematis have buds already, as do a couple of the iris. Almost a month early. Don't ask about the gnome [wry g].

back garden 2.jpg
The right side patio bed as you walk out the back door. Newly-planted petunias, lobelia, and alyssum in the tubs. The smaller pots have three kinds of mint and garlic chives, and the one big plant in the small pot is a pineapple sage with blooms you can't see that I wintered over on my kitchen windowsill. You can see the hellebore with its blooms almost done and the bleeding heart that got frosted and so is not quite taking over the world as it usually does.

back garden 3.jpg
The left side patio bed. Hostas coming up, buds on the coral bells, and the monkshood that will top out at eight feet tall in the left back corner. More petunias and lobelia in the tub cut off to the right.

The front flower bed, view from my front door. Lots of different textures, a few things in bloom. Even more in bud [yay!].

front garden 2.jpg
Front flower bed from the street. The light lavender is creeping phlox, the darker lavender is aubrieta. Various pansies. You can't see it from here, but the hardy geranium (see icon) is just beginning to flower. You can see the tub up by the wall, it's now sitting on pavers and is full of white wax begonias and mixed lobelia.

And that is the second round of this year's garden picspam, more potential edition [g].
