I seem to have a built-in long-term attention span of about six years. Marriages, jobs, houses, other things that would be nice to have be permanent fixtures, all make me fidgety after about four years, and usually implode within a couple of years after that.

Which wouldn't be an issue except that one of the above is getting to the fidgety stage, and there's not going to be much of an escape hatch in the forseeable future unless Chicken Little was right.

Which also means I have less than a year to finish the book before the fidgety stage sets in. Oh. My. That's one heck of an incentive.

Maybe novels don't fall into that category. The thing was never meant to be this long term in the first place, so it can't count, right?

In other news, the 1878 Hayden report arrived via interlibrary loan this week. Both three-inch-thick volumes of it. *With* incredible fold-out illustrations. And carefully hand-drawn maps. And text that's much more readable than I expected (even lyrical in places, in spite of the Victorian technical terms). That's the good news. The bad news is that the ILL was made on condition that it not leave the library, and no photocopying. Which I can understand, since it's 123 years old and the pages are rather fragile. Published in 1883 and rebound in green library binding at some point later. A camera may be in order. Or is that photocopying? [g] But at least it doesn't have to go back to Wyoming until the middle of July...

Oh, and I did take the crane pieces to QAP on Thursday night and now I have 24 crane attic window blocks. *And* I finished quilting the Bears in the Woods quilt. Now it just needs binding and a sleeve so I can hang it up in my bedroom!

Clematis and iris are over. Now we just need some warm weather (and something Evil to happen to the alder tree from hell) to bring out the roses and coreopsis. The new varieties of petunias (veined strawberry red and grape purple) are the nicest I've ever grown.

Onward and sideways. And if anyone has any ideas on how to do something about my attention span...
