AKICOLJ: scanner driver question
Feb. 28th, 2010 01:16 pmI possess a positive anti-genius for finding device drivers on the web and getting them downloaded properly to make the device work.
However. My HP all-in-one (Photosmart C3180) won't work. The computer refuses to recognize it as a scanner (it works fine as a printer and photocopier). I don't know how to fix this, but I'm assuming it's a driver issue. I went to the HP site and typed in the model, but then it started asking me questions I don't know the answers to. It gave me a choice of XP operating systems, for example -- I just have XP (Home) and I don't know if I have plain XP or XP 64. Then it asked me which update I wanted and gave me four to choose from that could equally be the one I want from the cryptic descriptions. Again, I don't know, I just want the one that will make it work.
Can anyone help me, or do I need to go to my computer guy for something that should be simple to fix but absolutely positively isn't simple to fix for me?
ETA: Okay, this is just bizarre. I found the HP software. Opened it, scanned one image. I have that image, safely on the computer. Then when I went to scan the next image, it tells me there's an error connecting to the scanning device. Why would it scan one image and then have problems???
This is the text of the error message that I got after it scanned one image successfully, when I tried to scan a second one: "The HP imaging device could not be installed. An error has occurred communicating with the device. Make sure the device's power cord and cable (I did check the ones attached on the device end) are properly attached and plugged in. Refer to HP service (yeah, how? I have no clue) and support on the web for more help with the error. The scanning software might be installed improperly or there might be a device conflict."
