I really like my new MP3 player (a Sansa), but the earphones that came with it don't fit my ears, and they make my ears hurt (not to mention that they won't stay put). How does one go about finding a pair of earphones/buds that are comfortable without buying a bunch of pairs and trying them on? I don't have a lot of spare money to invest in a bunch of earphones that might not work for me (or a lot of time to spend buying a pair, taking them home, trying, then returning them to the store and buying another pair till they fit), and for some strange reason the stores won't let me try them on without buying them [wry g].

Any ideas?

Also, how does one manage the cord? None of my tops have chest pockets (if you've met me and my chest in person, you'll understand why), and if I hook the MP3 player to my front jeans pocket, the cord gets in my way when I'm trying to do other things.

Any suggestions?

What I really would have liked, since I do most of my audiobook listening at home while doing housework, quilting, or graphics work for the museum stuff, is to be able to hook the MP3 player up to my speakers, but it doesn't seem to have enough power to do that even though the speakers plug in to the wall and don't draw power from it. Anyway, I can't make the volume go up high enough to be audible over things like the sewing machine [g]. So I will settle for a decent pair of earphones/buds. If I can find some without a lot of hassle.

Anyone? Bueller?

ETA: I guess I should say that I'm not necessarily looking for recommendations for specific earbuds/phones, since fit is such an individual thing, but for advice on easy ways to find ones that will work for me.
