thanks for all the suggestions
Sep. 23rd, 2011 11:05 amAbout what to do with that quilt, even if most of them were painful and frustrating to read.
Since the main reason I didn't want to give it away (as opposed to finding something else to make it go away) was because the piecing was good enough for me, but not good enough to give away, I went googling last night on a vague memory of a place mentioned on a quilting list I used to belong to and found it. It's called the UFO Orphanage (UFO in this instance stands for unfinished object -- it's a fairly standard term among quilters). They take anything at any stage, and make it into whatever they can use, so the piecing -- I will never make another log cabin quilt again, I don't think, at least not on that scale, because no two blocks ended up exactly the same size, so the outer ring of logs are of varying widths, which didn't bother me at the time, but well...
Anyway, I emailed her and got their current mailing address, and she says, yes, they've taken stuff in much worse shape than this and made good things out of it.
Any scenario involving me finishing it simply wasn't going to happen. I'm sorry I wasn't emphatic enough about that to forestall suggestions that I do so. I tried. Leaving it in my closet for a year or two would just bring back sad memories if I did haul it out again, not to mention preying on the back of my mind the whole time it was there. I know myself well enough to know that that was inevitable, and again, I'm sorry I wasn't emphatic enough there about it not being an option. The very concept of adding more work on it to make it a memorial to the boys just makes me want to cry. I am going to pack the whole mess up this weekend and make it go away. I hope they can make something decent out of it, because it really just does need to Go Away.
Anyway, just to let you know.
