30 day movie meme
Aug. 3rd, 2010 01:23 pmDammit, I missed a day again yesterday. So here's days 23 and 24.
( Previous days )
Day 23 - Favorite animation - An interesting way to phrase the question. Not, "favorite animated movie," but "favorite animation." Well, I'm going to answer it both ways, so I get both these movies into the meme. They're both Disney movies, from back before Disney and Pixar joined forces. My favorite animated movie is Mulan. Partly because I adore the heroine and her attitude. Partly because it's such a pretty movie (the whole Chinese landscape painting thing, and the part where Mulan causes the avalanche in particular, not to mention the fireworks near the end). And partly because of the incongruities -- the obvious one is Eddie Murphy's voice for the dragon, but I also get a giggle out of Donny Osmond's singing voice for Chang.
My favorite animation is the waterfall scene in Tarzan. I know CGI water is common as well, water, in movies these days, but at the time I first saw Tarzan in the theater, it just about knocked me out of my chair. It's so gorgeous. I like Tarzan just on general principles, anyway, and it's one of the few movies I like the film version of better than the book version, mostly because of the ending. I never pretended to be a purist in any way, shape, or form. So there [g].
Day 24 - That one awesome movie idea that still hasn't been done yet - I've been waiting for this one to come up ever since I started this meme. You see, there's this book. No, it's not one of mine [g]. It's a little category romance called Angel For Hire, by Justine Davis, that was published a long time ago. I've thought it should be a movie ever since the first time I read it. It's just incredibly cinematic to me for some reason. It's about a woman whose much older brother was killed in Vietnam, who lives on a farm that she's set up as a refuge for homeless military vets dealing with PTSD, who is at her wits end because the neighbors are doing everything they can to sabotage her efforts and because she's running out of money and resources, and one night she cries out to whatever's out there, and in return this angel arrives [g]. Of course, no one knows he's an angel...
