an update
On the DVR (hooking up to the TV, not my computer) without extra cable subscription situation.
In this area (an hour south of Seattle) Target does not carry them. Walmart does not carry them. Best Buy does not carry them. Video Only does not carry them. I do not have a Costco membership and have no intention of getting one, so I don't know whether they do or not.
Amazon carries something that is way more than I need in some ways and way less than I want in others, for too much money (defined as considerably over $150).
Apparently I was tilting at windmills on this one.
I need a good reason (as determined by me, aside from corporate greed) why this should be so. The technology is obviously there, and there should be a market for it...
Anyone have any other ideas on how I could locate such a beast? Such a beast being defined as a digital recorder that plugs and plays with my TV (not my computer) that records at least 20 hours worth and is usable to set to record by time, not by cable TiVo type subscription?
