From January 29, 2009: First. Go read this great article from Time Magazine: Books Gone Wild: The Digital Age Reshapes Literature. (Well worth reading.)

Second. Stop and think about it for moment. Computers and digital media are changing everything we do these days, whether we realize it or not, and that includes our beloved books.

Third. DISCUSS!

The first thing that jumps to my mind as a writer, and the comment I made where I pulled this from:

I do wish that the authors of articles like this would discuss the distribution issues for self-published material more thoroughly, or that there was a how-to book for this sort of thing somewhere (if there is, and anyone can point me to it, that would be nifty). What publishing houses do that matters is not the physical production of the books, but the distribution.

For those of us who do not have the social network that ate New York, or a blog read by thousands, I don't quite see the point of putting the thing out there since no one's going to know it's there. Trees falling in the forest don't make much noise if no one's there to hear them [wry g].
